Made from recycled silver, each one is custom made to neatly nestle the glass within. There are 4 rings in total – Honey, Blush, Sage and Bluebell – each differ in shape and size as a unique one-off statement ring. There are 2 different ring styles with the green and blue rings featuring a thinner rounded band and measuring UK size M, whilst the pink and orange have a wide flat band and are a size L. All of them have a beautiful satin finish which works great in contrast with the watery reflective glass.

The experience of working in collaboration with a fellow Nottinghamshire maker has been very fulfilling and I love how we each were able to contribute our own unique artistic input into the design and finish, ultimately creating something that neither of us could have dreamt up on our own.

Marrying beautifully crafted silver with one-of-a-kind glass centre pieces, this mini collection of statement rings celebrate local skills and handmade craft. We are thrilled with them all and we hope you love them too, (I still can’t decide which one my favourite is!).

Throughout the month of April we are displaying our work together with two other painters – Carly Gilliatt and Gill Edwards – and one weaver – Megan Allaway – at the Harding House Gallery on Steep Hill in Lincoln. We originally set aside two days to set up the exhibition, but as we unpackaged our work it all sat so well together so effortlessly, that we only needed the one day, and therefore opened a day early to the public!

Carly Gilliatt – Paintings which capture a moment in time, fuelled by uplifting colour and energy of the landscape.

Gill Edwards – Contemplative still life paintings which joyfully embrace colour, pattern and the dance of shape and space.

Megan Allaway – Vibrant and tactile weavings, skilfully encompassing the interplay of shifting colour pallets with mid-century design aesthetics.

Joy Gosney – Semi abstract paintings which fizz with effervescent hues and evoke compelling and dreamlike memories of landscape.

I had so much fun helping to put this exhibition together and it was a real honour to be asked to be a part of it. I am also really looking forward to the ‘Meet the Artists’ event on Saturday 20th April. I am very happy to announce that I now have two pieces on display within the museum and both are available to purchase.

Stood proud on a spalted beech base, ‘Sashiko’ is a deep blue translucent glass panel, carefully and dutifully decorated by small “stiches” of opaque white glass. With a clear link to the Japanese textiles technique of the same name, ‘Sashiko’ is a unique piece that took many hours to create with a steady hand and a lot of patience.

Fitting within my botanical range, ‘Fall’ is a shallow glass dish of golden yellow hues. Featuring fired on real leaves and grasses around the periphery, ‘Fall’ echoes the sensation of the warm autumn sun.

This is my first time attending Pollen (and first time trading in Sheffield) and I’m really excited to be taking part. I’ll definitely be taking some spending money on this one as I’m sure I’ll be bringing back some purchases of my own! This is also set to be the first of only two markets I will be participating in before autumn, so if you want to browse my work at a market before then, do make a note of the 11th in your diary. If all goes well I will return to Sheffield for the next indoor Pollen event in December.

Taking some time away from markets last summer helped me to be free to play and experiment with glass in a way that I haven’t since my uni days. The results were a body of work that felt connected, and expressed my inspirations better than anything I had made before. This is the same sense of clarity I want for my business.

To reach this goal I will do several things. First I will make a list of all the things I no longer wish to participate in. Setting these boundaries on paper will be a reminder to say no to things that do not serve me and only distract me from getting to where I want to be. Secondly I will decide exactly what it is I want to aim for so that I can be more proactive in taking the right steps in my journey forwards.

So the idea is that I will be doing less, but working just as hard (if not harder) so that the things I am doing are better than ever and take me onwards and upwards instead of leading me round and round in circles.

The changes will be across the board, from the things I make, to the events I attend, to the places I sell my work. Everything is up for review and potential elimination. But the hope is that by hitting the refresh button in this way, I will open up an alternative way of working and ultimately discover new opportunities for me to push myself into.

To capture the essence of the woodlands in which I regularly inhabit, wildflowers and leaves are collected and lightly pressed to flatten and minimise the moisture content. Glass powders are applied directly to the plants before being fired onto a base of sheet glass in the kiln. Whilst the natural materials burn away, their imprint is eternalised to be admired for generations.

The main differences between the two kilns are the size – my new kiln can fit almost double the work inside! – and the programmer, which instead of 9 available programmes, has 32. Both of these changes mean that I will save a lot of time in the studio and spend less time waiting for the kiln to cool so that I can put it back on. If I plan it well, it may also mean I put the kiln on less often, which is great for both my wallet and the environment.

This Cub-Fuser also has the GX insulation system, which means it is more environmentally friendly, using less energy to go to a full fuse than previous kilns of the same size.

The only drawback is I am yet to test all of my firing schedules and feel a little daunted by the immediate road ahead. Any glass artist will tell you that whilst there are standard firing schedules to refer to, no two kilns are exactly the same. This means that it takes time to ‘get to know’ each kiln, and I will probably have to do a fair bit of testing and tweaking before I can feel confident in my expectations from this new kiln.
